Local Election 2006
Your Norbury Candidates

A little about the team.....

Tirena Gunter Tirena has lived in the north of the Borough well in excess of 20 years and most of that time was spent in the Pollards Hill area. She currently works as Client Director at one of London’s largest Outdoor Advertising Agencies. Tirena has campaigned on many issues on behalf of the residents of Norbury. She is currently campaigning for a Caribbean Festival for Croydon in conjunction with a local committee in Norbury. She was also school governor with an ofsted failing school, which was closed despite relentless efforts by herself and the governing body.

Gloria Hutchens Gloria is an associate with a local firm of Solicitors and is married with two children. She has been a resident of the area for the last 20 years and was a Conservative Lambeth Councillor for 12 years prior to living in Croydon. Gloria has considerable experience of running a Council, having served on various committees including Social Services, Town Planning and Community Affairs. Gloria has also been involved with the community both attending residents’ associations meetings, served on Lambeth Police Consultation Group, the Family Practitioners Committee and has also been a School governor. Her particular interests are meeting the needs of the elderly and children, and also the environment.

Adam Kellett Taxi Driver Adam Kellett has been campaigning against the effects of Labour’s policies on Croydon since moving to the Borough. He helped protect South Norwood Country Park from development and is determined to make sure that any changes made to Norwood Grove and Norbury Park are what residents really want. Adam’s areas of particular interest are Planning, Special Needs’ Education and, as you would expect from a cab driver, Highways.

What will we do if elected?

  • We will maintain the character of Norbury by ensuring new developments are of the highest quality and in keeping with the area and only allowed where the infrastructure can cope.
  • We see involving Norbury’s youth in the community as an opportunity. We want young people to care about their area and that’s why we will be promoting Voluntary Community Service involving young people.
  • We will campaign for a Caribbean Festival for Croydon.
  • We will only allow changes to the use of Norbury Park and Norwood Grove Park which are supported by the majority of local residents.
  • We will keep Croydon’s element of Council Tax rises to below 4% and aim to reduce them further to less than inflation when finances allow.
