Local Election 2006
Your Addiscombe Candidates

A little about the team.....

Maria Garcia Maria has lived in Croydon for 21 years, moving to Addiscombe five years ago. Maria worked in the borough as a care assistant and home help for 3 years and gained insight into the needs of the vulnerable in our society. In addition she volunteered at Mayday Hospital and saw first-hand how alcohol and drug abuse can affect young lives. Having gained a biology degree and now working towards a social science degree, Maria believes it is important to increase recycling and improve street cleanliness. By engaging all members of society, by providing safe neighbourhoods and by improving the environment, Maria is confident that Addiscombe can be a place to be proud of.

Russell Jackson Russell has lived in the borough for the whole of his life and attended St. Andrew’s High School in Waddon. He worked for Croydon Council in the Library service for four and a half years, working in Libraries across the Borough including: Selsdon, Coulsdon, Thornton Heath and Norbury. Russell also spent time working as a Homework Help Assistant at after school clubs in the Croydon Central Library. This work has made Russell a passionate advocate of community work and Local Government.

Andrew Price Andrew’s home has always been Addiscombe. He went locally to Tunstall Nursery School and then Oval Primary School. Aged 26, Andrew now leads a busy life as a barrister. Prior to being called to the Bar, Andrew ran his own business for three years in educational publishing, managing an organisation of up to twenty. Andrew chairs Community Panel Meetings at the Croydon Youth Offending Team and wants to pull together his experience to ensure our town is a safe place for all that live here. Having grown up here he really wants a Croydon we can be proud of.

What will we do if elected?

  • We will maintain the character of Addiscombe by ensuring new developments are of the highest quality and in keeping with the area, whilst encouraging new businesses and homes that advance Addiscombe’s potential as an area.
  • We will keep Coleby Court open; we are prepared to champion the causes of the most vulnerable.
  • We see involving Addiscombe’s youth in the community as an opportunity, we want young people to care about their area and that’s why we will be promoting Voluntary Community Service involving young people.
  • We promise to make Addiscombe safer by introducing a uniformed Neighbourhood Enforcement Officer to work with the Safer Neighbourhood team in Addiscombe.
